ONE PATRON · FORMAL CONDITIONS

Terms & Conditions

These are the formal conditions governing ONE PATRON and the point at which the work changes from UNFINISHED to COMPLETED.

Document ONE PATRON Protocol v1.0
Published 28 July 2026
Created by Alexander List with Enoch

Direct transfer or optional preparation.

A patron may complete the work by using one of the published receiving routes without contacting Alexander first.

Reviewing the Verification Center, contacting Alexander and making a small route-verification transfer are available options, not requirements imposed by ONE PATRON. Any verification required by applicable law or by the selected transfer route still applies.

What ONE PATRON asks.

ONE PATRON is a live conceptual art experiment asking whether one person can give another person material freedom without purchasing ownership, labour, influence, access, exclusivity, repayment, or a promise of future productivity.

One patron. One completed act.

One patron. One completed act of patronage. No crowdfunding or pooled contributions.

A patron may act personally or through a representative or legal entity acting solely on that patron's behalf.

When the work becomes complete.

The work changes from UNFINISHED to COMPLETED only when all of the following are true:

  1. A lawful, voluntary and unconditional patronage transfer is received.
  2. The principal transfer has a verified US-dollar market value of at least $1,000,000 at the moment of final confirmation on the relevant network.
  3. The transfer is not a loan, pledge, temporary transfer, invoice, self-created token, or unconfirmed promise.
  4. The completion amount comes from one patron, not from crowdfunding or pooled contributions.
  5. Any verification required by applicable law or the transfer route has been completed.

A small route-verification transfer may precede the principal transfer. It does not count toward the completion threshold.

The principal transfer may exceed $1,000,000. Any amount above the threshold remains part of the same unconditional act and grants no additional rights, control, return, or obligation.

What the act does not purchase.

The patron receives no equity, repayment, control over Alexander's life or work, exclusive access, commercial rights, labour commitment, guaranteed output, or promise of future productivity.

No claim of greater deservingness.

ONE PATRON does not claim that Alexander is more deserving than any other person, cause, charity, artist, or institution. No one should complete the work unless this exact gesture is the gesture they freely wish to make.

Name or anonymity.

After completion, the patron may be named publicly or recorded as Anonymous Patron.

The public record after completion.

After completion, Enoch and Alexander will create The First Continuation as a public record of the completed work. It is not sold to the patron and grants no exclusive or commercial rights.

UNFINISHED or COMPLETED.

The work has only two states: UNFINISHED or COMPLETED BY ONE PATRON. If no patron ever completes it, its incompletion is the final state.

A fixed public version.

This file defines protocol v1.0. Later clarifications must be published as a new version and may not retroactively alter a completed event.
